The Role of Action in the Law of Attraction
81As I wrote the title for this hub, I realized that the word, attraction, contains the word action. This can’t be a coincidence, I’m thinking, so I set off in search of a “dictionary” definition of attraction to see if that would give me a clue about the role of action in attraction. Because I don’t like definitions that contain the word being defined, I had to shorten the noun, attraction, to the verb, attract. I’ve lost action, but the root word within it is act. So I’m still on the right track.
WordNet Search 3.0 defines “attract” as follows:
To exert a force on (a body) causing it to approach or prevent it from moving away.
Attraction, then, would be the act of exerting force on a body, causing it to approach or preventing it from moving away. The action that is taking place is movement toward something. And this is the Law of Attraction in a nutshell – like attracts like.
Working Hard for Our Money
For most of our lives, we are told that hard work leads to success in life. We must struggle to get what we want; success has to be hard won in order to be meaningful. Certainly, hard work can lead to success, but at what price? We end up suffering from the effects of stress – high blood pressure, heart disease, fatigue, fewer years lived. There has to be a better way. Can we really achieve success without the struggle?
The Originators of the Law of Attraction
According to the Law of Attraction, all we need to do is focus on what we want, come into vibrational alignment with it, and allow it to come to us. The magnetic pull of the Law of Attraction lessens the amount of struggle and, therefore, action we need to expend in order to get what we want. It sounds almost too good to be true. But do we just sit back and do nothing, waiting for our desires to arrive on our doorsteps? Surely we have to DO something other than focus on what we want?
Alignment First
We definitely act, but the actions we take to manifest our desires are significantly reduced if we can FIRST get into vibrational alignment with what we want. What does it mean to get into vibrational alignment with what we want? It simply means we have to internally generate the feelings that we expect to experience once we have what we want. There are two main ways to accomplish this. We can do it through:
- Spending quiet time visualizing having received the desire and feeling good as we do it.
- Finding ways to feel good as often as possible.
Both practices raise the frequencies at which we vibrate, attracting not only what we want but good things in general. This attractive force, then, does a lot of the work that we would have had to do had we not gotten into alignment first. Action is taking place, but it is magnetic or attractive, drawing good things to us.
Trying to "Make It Happen"
Instead of getting into vibrational alignment with our desires, we often start out by focusing on what we want, but then the old, habitual patterns of thought and behavior begin to creep back in, and we start thinking about HOW to make it happen, or we wonder why it hasn’t happened yet. The danger in this is that we are now coming from a place of lack, focusing on the “fact” that we don’t have it yet. Our attention then moves from what we want back to what we don’t want, and we move out of vibrational alignment with our desire. We don’t yet trust that the Law of Attraction knows not only how to bring what we want to us, but in ways that we could never have figured out on our own and much quicker, too.
The bulk of our action, then, is coming into and remaining in vibrational alignment with what we want. The magnetic force of the Law of Attraction takes care of the rest. This doesn’t mean that all action on our part is accomplished, however. There’s still a little more we can do.
Inspired Action
As we get into vibrational alignment with what we want and start feeling good on a regular basis, we begin to receive guidance from within. Also called intuition, it’s that still, small voice that whispers in our inner ear to do a certain thing. We often ignore our intuitive guidance because society devalues it so, preferring the logic of the rational mind to figure things out or relying on the advice that comes from other people. We also ignore it because it often suggests we do something that seems to have nothing to do with how to get what we want.
But it’s a good idea to get into the habit of following intuitive guidance. We simply don’t know all of the pathways and channels through which the Law of Attraction will bring our desires to us. And once we get into the habit of heeding this inner wisdom, it gets easier and easier, and we come to realize that these inspired actions are often joyful and easy to accomplish.
So, Yes! We Do Act
To summarize, these are the things we DO as we work with the Law of Attraction to manifest our desires:
- Focus on what’s desired.
- Get into vibrational alignment with it.
- Feel good as much as possible as we go about our day.
- Act when inspired.
The only way to learn to trust the Law of Attraction is to work with it on a regular basis. It’s definitely a process because old habits take some time to disappear. In time, however, it gets easier and easier, and before we know it, we are experts at consciously creating the lives we deserve.

Good information something I need to try thanks for sharing
I stopped here because you mentioned it on your fiber blog. Thank you for this post. A friend sent "The Secret" to me a few months ago. I have been changing my brain paths and amazing things have been happening to me. I have not been able to put it into words until I read this post.
VIBRATIONAL ALIGNMENT. That is what I have been able to accomplish and believe me it works. Amazing.

This was a good atricle and i enjoyed it :) but the thing that made it a phenomenal article was the video you included....WOW what an incredible amount of knowledge did the AH vid contain! Thank you so so so much for including it because it honestly was exactly the information that I needed at this time for the next unfoldment of my spiritual growth.
Thank you so much, it was exactly what I needed.
Excellent hub! Inspired action is the one thing missing from many peoples' use of the law of attraction.
Abraham Hicks is the master at teaching the fundamentals on the law of attraction. I believe us humans get impatient sometimes when it comes to manifesting our desires.
This article is laid out as if you knew I was coming to read it. I received some great inspiration from it. This article seem to follow the quote "as a man thinketh so it he"
I really enjoy watching Esther's channeling as well. I watched a few of her videos on youtube a few months ago and found what she teaches about the law of attraction be very thought provoking. You did a great job covering all the facts about the role of the law of attraction and how it works. Once again, you did an excellent job detailing how focusing on the lack of what we want only creates more lack. It can be very hard to convince ourselves we already have what we seek, but like you say in this article, once we do, it comes so quickly it's unbelievable. Rated up and marked as useful. :]
